EXHIBIT: The Highwaymen—The Walker Collection of Florida Self-Taught Art

Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs Presents The Highwaymen: The Walker Collection of Florida Self-Taught Art Art in the Chambers Summer Exhibition May 23 to September 21, 2023.

Orange County, FL – Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the Public Art Review Board is very pleased to present The Highwaymen: The Walker Collection of Florida Self-Taught Art from May 23 to September 21, 2023. The Highwaymen captured America’s postwar spirit through the prodigious output of lively oil paintings that depicted tropical landscapes, a place where one looked at a land of bountiful possibilities. Their vintage works drew people to the art and to Florida as a state of mind, a great escape.

Many thanks to Lance Walker, the world’s leading collector of Florida Highwaymen paintings and Florida self-taught artists. He is the executive producer of the documentary, “The Highwaymen.” Mr. Walker’s mission is to recognize and celebrate Florida’s Self-Taught and so-called Outsider art and artists. His forward-thinking vision complements established art museums and humanistic culture by expanding the range of the fine arts with fresh and challenging artworks by those who are not formally and/or academically trained.
