Robert Butler, born in Georgia got his start painting the scenes and wildlife around the small farm and ranching community of Okeechobee, Florida, where his mother settled in 1946 when Robert was 4-years old. He became one of the foremost naturalist painters in the South. Creating commissioned paintings from ranchers, doctors, lawyers, hunters, art admirers and organizations throughout not only Florida but, other regions in the United States.Listed in “Who’s Who in the South”,[ his works are collected by admirers on four continents and hang in numerous corporate and private collections]
In the late 80’s and early 2000’s Robert hosted several television programs, teaching others his technique of painting which focused on specific use of brushes and color mixes. Robert, a Florida “Hall of Fame” artist is one of the 26 original Florida “Highwaymen”. The title founded (by Robert Butler and Jim Fitch) and given to the group of artist that traveled and sold their art along the roadways of Florida; beginning in the early 60’s.
Autobiography Available: “Timeless Echoes”- the Life and Art of Robert Butler, a full color autobiography of 400 pages, features over 200 photos of Robert Butler art, as well as another 65 of art by each of his nine children, who became talented artists in their own right.
Robert Butler’s professional career began in 1968; his television debut came in the 1980’s with “Painting Southern Landscapes” series on PBS-1986 and led to the publishing of books, tapes and other instructional materials. From 1999-2001 he created the Agriculture series of 12 paintings to bring attention to the important needs and benefits of agriculture in the state of Florida. “A living history in painting… Butler once described what he creates is “a living history in painting…paintings are forever interaction with the viewer; giving information”.
